Sligo SWFF 12.3.2013
People:me
Duration:3 hrs
Tide:0.2m low
Weather:bright
1 sea trout -about 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 lb
not much to report - very low tide - so had a mussel gathering detour and arrived about an hour after low to find unexpectedly high winds that made the spot i had planned to fish a nightmare - made long hoof accross soft sand to a new spot - seen a nice fish jumping and a seal and a few birds fishing so looked good. At one stage i was turning to walk back in out of the water and felt the gentlest pull on the line - though it was probably a wee bit of floating weed, but had another cast into the same area just in case. hit into a a fish pretty much straight away, serious fight - by far the hardest fighting fish this year - including a few spectacular leaps right in front of me.
fished on for another while in search of another, but that was it for the day

Re: Sligo SWFF 12.3.2013
Eoghan - this is an estuary , but very close to the open sea, have got most of them on a blue/white and grizzeld feather sandeel pattern - size 6, and also a few on a home mad popper - just a bit of foam superglued onto a fly with a holographic tinsel body and a bit of black and blue bucktail..
it really does seem to bring the fish up, esp. with a larger foam head - but you do miss a lot of fish on it.

Re: Sligo SWFF 12.3.2013
At them again today bryan, got 3 including two at about 1 1/2lb - one of these was a bit skinny , but generally they have been good condition - though i have noticed that some are very heavily sea liced.
hit into a shoal of them at one point - must have rose about 6 in rapid succession but every one came short - with just a sharp tug but no hookup - exciting as hell tho!
