Ok folks, here the situation, it's my birthday this weekend and i plan to spend a large proportion of any money i recieve on fishing tackle etc unfortunately i will not be buying anything on e-bay but i'm sure my local tackle dealer(s) will have no problems about that.. lets say i put £150 aside purely for fishing gear, what would you get? I'm mostly talking terminal tackle really plus i'm looking a (if possible) single beach rod rest, all suggestions welcome and of course brand names if you wish, i'm still very new to this and learning, now were coming into the summer and i would like to equip myself as best possible :wink:

I don't want to buy a new rod just yet as i'm planning to steal one of Drew's K2's.. 8)

well if i had 150 to spend this is what i'd get,

4/5/6oz lead moulds ( always comes in handy)
loads of shock leader
amnesia for snoods
loads of hooks (various sizes)Kamasan aberdeen black
a good fillet knife
diamond/titanium sharpening block (the ones carpenters use to sharpen their chisels)
swivels for rigs
and miles of main line

If i had change after all that it would be a miracle... :D :D

bit of advice mate amnesia is good for flapper rigs but stretches with time and will muck up you clip down rigs even with an srt spring used the snood becomes to long through stretch and the rig usless.hooks of your choice main line for clean ground and dirty ground ,shock leader most important,swivels for traces ,lead links,filliting knifeand some thing to keep the tackle in a box or if you prefere rugsack.

a bit of advice is if your using say 50lb Straight throw shock leader rather that buying a spool with say 50 meters on it buy a big spool its only £3-£4 more expensive and will last up to 6x longer that's one thing i found out the hard way and you can also use it for tying your own rigs pulley rigs or something simple like that to start of with. i would also recommend you get a rig wallet abu do one that's not bad £9.99 single and £14.99 double as for a tripod i would advise you to get a double one because you might want to fish 2 rods some time soon and its also useful if you have a Friend along fishing with you or if your fishing a spot were lots of people fish because if some one doesn't have a rod rest and you what to have a chat with then you can just say you can use my rod rest if you want and you never know you could be come mates and he could take you to different places to fish Shakespeare do a very very good rod rest for £44 its mat black. mustad make some good hooks if you need any make sure that you go to the top end of the price scale on hooks i pay £4+ for 25 hooks and they last longer and do not bend. and get your self a Gemini lead mold for making griper weights and Ron Thompson do a mold i think its £15 and it makes 3 to 6 oz and Ron Thompson also make a good flitted set with a small Bord and every thing its £20 and if you want to travel light mustad make a flitted knife and baiting knife £13 for the two. and get 100s of lead links i hate to say this but e-bay is your best bet 150 for £12 and the same for most for your small stuff crimps beads etc. tho one thing i would make sure i get out of the fishing shop and spend come cash on is swivels make sure you get the rolling ones NOT barrel swivels they have broken of with me before Gemini do good rolling swivels 80lb breaking strain. anyway hope this helps you

Made up a couple of clip down rigs last week and used amnesia snoods.
Bloody things stretched to the point that they would not stayed clipped when hanging on the rod stand.
As most of my fishing is done with pulley rigs this is the first time iv come across this.

Rig Wallet, Grippies, Plains, 3 Sizes of Hook, .80 Crimps, Lead Links, 2 Sizes of Swivels, Bait Scissors, Shockleader, Amnesia, Mustad Boom Arms, Beads.

Livid - enjoy your new gear, I reccommend that you get a decent box to keep it all in and please remember, you can never have enouh main-line and shockleader.

Mustad do some really good rod stands - around £30 - £40.

just be wary of the mustad booms, ive had quite a few of them breaking with very little pressure etc, wouldnt want to be hooking something of a decent size on them with my experiences, but for general tiddler scratch fishing, which they are generally designed for, they should be ok
the rest of the kit is fine, good advise again drew!

Keep the suggestions coming lads, i'm going back on Monday to spend maybe the same amount or more, have my eye on a tripod in the shop, also possibly looking for a rod holdall.

tripod, buy one to last, ian golds or mustad best bet, for a rod holdall probablt either mustad, greys, titan or imax, there are some other good ones out there too, just depends what they stock

The tripod was made by Shakespeare, this might be the very one http://www.anglingcentre.net/acatalog/9404sm.jpg considering i have never had a beach rod rest and that i'm still more or less a beginner, i think it'd do me rightly for now...

yep, it may well do the job, i dont think ive seen it before, i was only suggestting that going on my own past experiences that it is best to buy good quality stuff from the beginning that will last you for a long long time, thus not having to worry about replacing it a few years down the line.
