Seafield 1st May

#1 Post by Woody »

People: Self

Duration:3 hours

Tide:1 hour before morning high tide

Weather: Cold, windy but sunny and dry

Bait:Sandeel

Rigs: Vaious

Results:One Flounder

Report: Fished near entrance to beach. Caught an 18" flounder on first cast. Tried for bass after that. Got a few bites but didn't connect with anything. The bites dried up once the tide started to go out.
I tried spinning for a while off the rocks but there was a big swell and it was a bit dodgy.
Entries now open for the Henry's Tackle Shop All Ireland Shore Smooth Hound Championships on July 18h hosted by Sea Angling Ireland SAC

Were you fishing on the beach Woody or off the rocks into the deeper water?

Thanks - personal best for me. However, don't think they are that unusual in this part of the country. Have caught quite a few at 16" but normally much later in the year.

Nice one Woody. Have always thought that the Beack might be worth a shot some time. I nearly always end up on one of the other beaches in the area with some bigger surf on them.

Was weed a problem? Every time I have thought about fishing here there has been lots of weed about.

There was a small bit in the corner I was fishing in but the rest of the beach was clean. I know it can get very heavy with weed at times.
I am not that familiar with the beach myself. Where I was fishing was fine as I was there early but it would be a pain later in the day with all the walkers and dogs. I have seen other people fishing near the water outlets on the beach but maybe one of the lads who knows the area can advise.
I would prefer the peace and quiet of your other beach down the road - you seem to doing well there!
