Howth - Sunday 30.04.06

#1 Post by Wes »

People: Mate and I

Duration: 830am-4pm (only intended on about 3hrs worth)

Tide: On the turn coming in.

Weather: Calm, overcast

Bait: Rag, Sandeel

Rigs: Various

Results: Lots and lots of Coalies (23 between us)

Report: After a week or two of talking about it, I finally got out. Two of us headed for Howth, headed for the Bailey but refused access (another story). Decided to give Split Rock a lash, hadnt fished there in quite a while. On the way up to the parking spot, we passed about 3 groups of three lads heading up with their gear (one of whom had the fly gear that was being sold in Lidl). By the time we got ready they had all passed us and headed in the direction of the split. Then another car pulled up and another 2 blokes grabbed their gear and walked in the same direction, lovely, the spot is gone, i thought. Nope, they all came down, obviously new to the area. We headed down, geared up and got the lines out. Was slow to begin with but once the tide turned and was coming in, it picked up. The amount of walkers that tried to climb down some very steep sections was unreal.
One funny/disturbing thing that did happen, mate had put his line out, but not where he wanted it. Taking it back in and he said there must be some weed on it as it was heavier. Brought it up and disgustingly, there was a sanitary towel attached. The things you dont expect.

What happened up at the Bailey Wes?

Were you fishing the the lefthand side, or straight up towards the lighthouse itself?

I'll drop you a PM, Steve.
Suffice it to say no more cars or access through the Private Road, permitted only to cut across the Private Road when trekking round Howth head.
