Fair enough about the leg segment but are all the crabs found in tyres peelers? I guess the thinking is that they are vulnerable and that is the only reason they would be found that particular environment.

Not necessarily, I had two today that weren't peeling. They were little ones so they may have been just seeking a place to hide from predators.

I was in a tackle shop in Waterford today and they had some crabs but said that they wern't ready as peelers. He even showed me the soft back leg when he pulled off the last segment of the back leg but said they'd be no good for a few days yet and I'm out tomorrow. So I didnt take any. I'll do some searching around the rocks tomorrow. Was he pulling my leg as well as the crabs? Signed Confused!!!!!!!!

Nice one, Pete.

How about a pic of a trap in it's immediate surroundings - not enough to disclose the location - just to show us what sort of place you're getting them in?

Drain pipe is a good option, seen it on a dvd about collecting bait and they do work.
