Report:fished off the cliff on the north as its impossible to get onto the beach through the grove ,kept well back from the edge as a 15 foot landslide to the beach didnt seam like a good idea plenty of whiting and a good size doggie on my last cast ,bites just dried up so off to the harbour, same again with some small slugs in close, and a tiny doggie out at distance ,biggest whiting was 30 cm left at 11 as bites stopped on both rods for 20 min
squid was working well for the whiting with a few turn of bait elastic i was getting two or three casts on each strip (lazey )
how was the snags there i havent fished that beach in a few months and was fishing terrible the last few times iv tried it threw the summer, you can get down alright down by the grove you just have to take you time going down that mucky wet hill and fish to the left as the right i find is totally a tackle graveyard
Well done on getting a few roger .that greystones doesn't sound too bad .ye always seem to get something .as for dog fish I miss them ,they just don't exist up this area

Nice sessions Roger, wouldn't mind getting a few doggies myself but they have been scarce recently, as have the whiting. Come to think of it I haven't seen many rockling either!
yes slug is slang for a rockling to be honest they are the only fish i hate handling besides eels they bring new meaning to the word slippery !!!you have to give them their dues as i think 50 % of the ones i catch arnt even hooked the just jam the hook or bait in their mouths till its stuck fast
Nice bit of fishing Roger. the run of Whiting this year seems to be slightly bigger than recent years. The increase in mesh size in the nets on the prawn boats working the east coast might have something do with it. Instead of 1 year old fish escaping the nets now it's 2 year old fish which are escaping the nets and they are in their 3rd year by the time we get em!

didnt get snagged at all ,to be honest i always fish the right side where its snaggy as it normally throws up the bigger fish ,i use a fixed spool 20lb main line a lead lift and a rotten bottom and normally a pully rig to keep me out of trouble last time i went down the mud onto the beach i ended up on anti-inflammatory tablets for a fortnight! hence i wont venture down that slippery landslide again ,i also nearly lost my waders on the way back up if you take a look at the beach on a spring tide at low water it has some areas of mixed ground between the outflow and greystones good ground for big huss, conger and cod ,if you can get the method right and not end up snagged i,d say it could be good towards the end of the summer
