Something dacent, west waterford

#1 Post by seanie35 »

Hit the mark about an hour before low which is ideal for the area because as soon as it slackens enough to hold bottom i normally pull a few fish. On with 3 peeler, 5/0 hook, 1st cast i belt it as far as i can into the channel and chuffed as it holds nicely just where i want it. 2 minutes pass , a smoke and coffee poured tap tap then the rod lurches to the point of collapsing the tripod . Great fight the fish strains the rod full arch using the tide but i gained on it and despite some crazed lunges at the waters edge i get it on the shoreline. Good cod instantly thought "double" but probably about 9lb hard to tell it had a huge girth to it . Just filleted it at home now and no suprise 2 big rockling stewing away in its belly. Its innards mustve been close to 2lb i kid you not. Anyways delighted to get it some fine reports lately of big cod around youghal so their defo about.
