Report:
Fished a club comp last night, looking back at it now tho i shouldve stayed at home or went to youghal with the lads on saturday night....

I had set out with high hopes, i had a new rod and reel getting their first outing with me and if my history of bringing out new gear has taught me anything its when i have new gear with me i generally do well.... Not this day tho, it would seem having 2 new items of gear cancels any good luck mojo i would normally have.... :?

Anyway, the fishing, it was obvious from the get go it would be hard going, the wind was heavy enough to eliminate any hope of seeing bites on the rod tips so it was more a case of cast out, leave the rod 25mins then reel in and check to see if anything was on the hooks.... My first cast resulted in a 13cm Dab, i was at least off the mark, all the other guys were soon to reel in after seeing me with a fish, tough luck to them, they had nowt this time  The (over confident) banter from me was a hand sized dab was gonna win the comp for me  2nd cast, i had a slightly better Dab, 19cm, again, none of the other guys had anything, i was deffo confident at this stage, sadly tho it was short lived, as i reeled in for the 3rd time i had nothing to show for it, a quick look up and down the beach showed the rest of the guys bringing in something, this lack of fish continued for me for most of the night, i even birdied 2 reels, 1 of them was whilst trying out a prototype trace, said trace has now been shelved as it clearly didnt work...., 2nd reel went because it wanted to i think.... :? Thankfully i had a 3rd reel in the box for just such emergencies....

So, finally i was back to fishing, my stress from going through as many reels was rewarded with 2 rockling and a 29cm whiting, wasnt enough to win me the comp tho, i came 2nd last with 5 fish over 3 species, the winner had about 14 fish, over 5 species which included a small codling and a doggie.

Theres no photos from the evening as im pretty sure we all know what whiting, rockling, dabs and doggies look like,

On a side note to the fishing tho, one of the guys with us had a few people come up to him and give the obligatory questions and offers of advice, as it got darker tho, he had a couple of young girls come up to him, we think they were around the 15-16 age group, and it was blatently obvious they had had a drink, they started off asking him how deep did he think the water was, would ther water be warm enough to swim in, then one of them started to tell him they didnt have enough money to get home to Finglas, she then went on to offer him a 'service' for a fiver!!!!!! Needless to say he gave her a bit of advice and told her to get home!!!!!
