Mayo Beach 6/1/13

#1 Post by spindlefist »

Myself/b]:

6pm-9pm:

LW at 6pm:

windy,rainy,mild:

frozen Razor, Mack:

2 hook flappers:

1 whiting:

Having been housebound with man flu all week, the cabin fever got the best of me, so I headed off northwards. halfway into the hour twenty minute drive to the mark, it was as if I was driving underwater, lashing rain, and my brain was asking me what the flup was I doing?! I battled on, thinking what the alternative was-sitting in. staring at the wall. again.
got setup just after 6pm, baits in water 5 mins later. standing with back to the sideways rain wasn't so bad as I was waterproofed up to the nines.
15 mins saw that gittering quiver bite- whiting......
out came a wee 10inch whiting. A welcome fish, blank avoided.... Thought this was how the night was to proceed- whiting after whiting, maybe some dogs, a usual on this mark.
but no, no more. couple more gittery bites, no hook ups. Met a chap from Castlebar, so I wasn't the only man standing in the elements on the night.
decided to pack up just before 9, off home to get back to that wall...... it's not going to stare at itself.

i know all about guinness will,,,had enough of them last night and they were tasty  ,,as for fishing,,yes the beaches are doing well,,that one i told you about,,that you went on your last day,,is fishing extremely well,,massive numbers of trout ranging from 1lb to 4lb even still but they are not as beefy as the ones in summer/autumn etc,,,flats are fishing well with some up to 40cm,,,preticulary as coming to the last 2 hours of the tide,,bass are recorded down further south along the beach but i havent got down there in a good while but have heard of recordings of up to 12lb(not many),,,the northern side of the peninsula is still throwing up ray, with occasional gurnards, whiting coalies etc,as for cod,,caught 2 red cod there a few weeks back but fishing the marks is dangerous and snaggy,,,,hopefully this year,if im around, yes can we can hook up for the week and give it a good testing,,,im hopeing if im around in april,,i can try a few tope marks i have be allocating,,had a guinness in the shilling funny enough the other day
