As title suggests, i was given a boat rod through the summer, a Fladen Maxximus, the rod itself is in good condition but the reel seat is in bits, the bottom part of the seat has pretty much disintigrated,
The screw bit has sheared from the metal part and the metal band has split, i can still put a reel onto the rod but its a right pain to get the reel off, a screwdriver and a hammer is the quickest and easiest way to remove the reel.
So, is there anyway of me removing the existing reel seat without me destroying the rod or am i destined to having to carry a hammer and screwdriver with me whenever i use that rod?

I don't think the problem is getting the seat off, I think the main problem will be trying to get a new seat on without destroying the existing foam grip on the rod.... Also I'm not sure Fladen will be very forthcoming with a replacement as the rod was a couple of years old already when I was given it...
I had a quick look at the site, id say the duplon grip and new seat will be the way to go, however, looking at the rod it would appear that the blank is less than 20mm, so, i guess im gonna have to try find somewhere that sells grips in a suitable size, Veals only seem to start from 22mm...

i bought an adjustable reel seat for my multi rod last week, tis an abu one, they are available in 5/6 different blank sizes..would one of those work for ya?
might be worth a look, but you will probably have to loose some foam.
have you considered using Breakaway Nylon Coasters? They can be undone to wrap around the Duplon grip of your rod. No need to mess around with reel seats and grip diameters and they are cheap too. You can buy them here: http://www.henrystackleshop.com/product ... ts_id=2156

I had actually started to think about these, and, convienently enough too, i have a set put away in a 'safe place' already, so, if i can just remember where that safe place is ill try one out on the rod....
