People:The Apprentice and me.
Duration:3.5 hrs
Tide:2 hrs up and 1.5 hrs down.
Weather:Calm, dry, cool.
Bait:Herring, prawns
Rigs:3 boom flapper, single hook paternoster in rough ground, 3 hook flapper.
Results:Apprentice; 3 pollack, 1 each of coalfish, strap conger, shore rockling, pouting. Me; 2 pollack, 3 pouting.
Report:
I had promised to take the Apprentice out night fishing some time and this was it. I think he really just liked the idea of fishing with a glowlight on the end of his rod. We, or should I say I, set up 2 hrs before high water and he was happy to fish close in. Immediately bites were coming and he swiftly landed a small coalfish followed by a 28cm pollack. Meanwhile my rod fishing at range was showing bites but being busy looking after Junior, I ended up with stripped hooks and no fish. The Apprentice topped his night with a pollack and strap conger (50cm) double shot. In total he managed 7 fish and 5 different species, the conger and rockling being new species for him. In between I managed a couple of pollack and 3 pouting including one particularly well striped fish. After a busy start the bites just died away so with a few spots of rain appearing, we called it a night. "How many fish did I catch?" he asked while nodding off to sleep, maybe next time, if there is one, I'll let him tackle up, bait up etc himself, the jammy little boll.......
