Report:hit one of east cork beaches this morn nice surf rolling in and beach looked clean .set up two rods 3 hook flapper2 hook loop rig, didnt take long for first bass to hit loop rig on lug schoolie 14 inches recast, quiet for a while then a second bass on crab legs.quiet again then got a good tug thought bass no 3 but turned out to be a good flounder 45cm 1 kg good thick fish got quiet again so move was decided as tide was flooding hard and had to move car, before i left im proud to say i was approached by two fishery officers good to see them out and about with the big tides due, quick chat with them and they gave good info, and moved to another beach east along. lovely surf here but only managed one flounder.all in all nice day out and maybe hope yet that these netters will get their rightful punishment.no photos all fish released forgot camera.btw that was first time i ever was approached by fishery officers in 23years fishing on this stretch

Thats very good to hear and jesus a 1kg Flatfish is a mighty catch congrats .i was down in monkstown today and there was a trawler going up and down the channel first time i,ve seen this i wonder how often they do that and what there quotas are would you know?

was on live ships the other day and there was a trawler workin the whole monstown area for hours! wont be good for the winter cod fishing down there!!!

dont know their quota but if their there the cod must be arriving its a case of beat the net from now on while avoiding the thousands of juvenile fish

Some nice fish there, especially the flounder
It is good to see the fisheries officers concentrating on the East Cork/West Waterford areas.
It's not nice to say, but some of these skippers are probably taking their Q from reports they read on websites such as this.
If so; it leaves you with the dilemma of whether or not to post reports on Cod or Bass fishing at certain times of the year, as reports; translate into information on fish movements for rogue plunderers that have the neck to call themselves fishermen

such a shame i remember last year the cod fishing at the wall was good for about two weeks,i was catching fish up to 5lbs and seen other anglers with fish up to 7lbs.then one day i was fishing with one of the buddys when this trawler came out of nowhere and started netting everything in front of us some anglers started casting leads at it in disgust,and that was the end of the fishing for rest of the year.drunk me right off as this was the first time i had ever seen this happening as i live in the area.i dont know if they see reports on this site or not dont think it matters to be honest because anyone passing the wall either by car or walking can see cod displayed on anglers boxes and wall itself.not targeting anyone here but maybe if people keep the fish they catch in boxes or put them in bag and into car straight away without showing the whole world.

Hi lads,
I used to fish with Great Island SAC IN Cobh and i used fish all of Cork HBR before coming back to Galway after meeting a Galway Girl whom im now married to with 3 kids,anyway those that are saying that they have only seeing trawlers for the 1st time up around monkstown,well i can tell ye this has being going on for years,a few times i fished verlome dockyard as id have being working there with the Navy and them trawlers would be fishing up to monkstown and beyond and back down to Cobh,i had some great days and nights fishing THE WALL but when they were around you were better of packing your gear and going for a pint or going home,im sorry to hear that this is going on down there to the local lads and those that travel to it and especially this time of the year when the codling are around.

I have been fishing De Wall for around 10 years now and they have been trawling it ever since I started going down there. As other posters have said it is just the end of any fishing when they come about the place. I cannot see any report here about cod at De Wall so I cannot understand why some posters have said it is reports on here which bring them into the channel. There are a few guys who set gill nets down there, illegal ones I have been told by a local I have become friends with, and they will pass on the information, for all I know they might well be one in the same person doing both types of netting. Sad to say lads I will not be going down there till I get the news from my friend that there are fish about the place and that the poachers have stopped their activities, it is a waste of time, petrol and money going there when those scum are doing their dirty work. Sad to hear that they are at it again, but what do you expect from the greedy so called fisherman, they don't have to go far and they clean up, it is a win, win and win again situation for them?
