sunday afternoon past. Red Bay SWFF

#1 Post by chuckaroo »

People: me

Duration: couple if hours

Tide: high on arrival

Weather: great

Bait: fly

Report:
thought i'd visit a mark that i havent been to in a while and give some of the flies i had tied a bash
the primary target was to get a wrasse on the fly but i ended up with pollack, coley and a surpise wee cod
no size in any of the fish, few barely put a bend in my rod, but i caught many of them
it was great to be out and have a go... 8)

reckon that was a wee 'kelp cod' Brian, very dark. i put on bigger flies and also tried spinners and big soft plastics too for a bit.. no big cod about!

cheers JW. Halford and Skues would be well impressed i would like to think.. 8) but they were primarily the dry-fly guys. must give it a go for the cod some time then - see if they'll come up for one (doubt it!) :P

better than sitting at home ghosty, no doubt about that. cant see myself doing much SWFF in the winter to be honest. might have to resort to the rainbow trout lakes..

keep at it Monty, you'll get there with a bit of practice
it can be good to try first without a leader attached, then attach a leader as you improve
just takes a little practice. and a really nice way to fish i reckon

nah, ive seen a few cod on the fly now. i managed a semi-decent one last year, maybe just over a pound. prier to catching it i'd been catching very lively coley, which were brilliant scrappers on the fly rod, but that cod was even stronger (pound for pound)! it wouldnt give up.. very powerful wee fish
