This will be a great comp for that time of year on Tramore Beach, Martin was a well known and very respected Angler in Waterford and this will have a big turn out to reflect the high esteem Martin was held in.
He fished competively well into his latter years!!!

Re: Martin Halley Memorial Comp
39 hardy anglers braved atrocious weather when they took part in the 1st Martin Halley Memorial Competition at Woodstown Beach on Sun Nov 18th. Origannly scheduled to take place in Tramore, the weather forced the switch of venue due to strong winds and driving rain. Anglers arrived at Woodstown to wet and windy conditions and with the competition put back half an hour, the dark had set in before fishing began. The beach had three zones and the better fishing was had in 1 and 2 with plenty of undersize fish to keep the anglers attention. The 3rd zone fished slowly and poorly with very few undersized and only a sprinkling of qualifiers. With the driving southerly wind and rain the anglers endured a tough night resulting in a few throwing in the towel before the end. Those remaining on the beach at 9pm were glad to leave and return to Tramore for the prizegiving. Considering the bad weather a good number of the anglers made the journey back for the prize giving and after the scores were totalled and verified the prizegiving took place. On the night the Halley family were in attendance and had provided a Perpetual Cup in memory of Martin which his wife presented to the winning angler. The prize winners on the night were, 1st Overall, Linda Manton Lisdoonvarna SAC, Zone 1, 1st G Reynolds, 2nd J Birney, 3rd S Fanning. Zone 2, 1st J O'Brien, 2nd M Tobin, 3rd M Roche. Zone 3, 1st D Flanagan, 2nd J Russell, 3rd K McCartan. The pool winners were, Longest Flat, J Birney, Longest Round J O'Brien. 65 fish were recorded mainly flounder. The club draw results are S robinson, S Flynn, N MCEvoy, P Halley. The club would like to thank the Halley family for the presentation of the Martin Halley Cup, John O'Brien for generously sponsoring the competition, O'Sheas Hotel Tramore and all the anglers who turned up on the day.
