Red Bay doggies today

#1 Post by chuckaroo »

People: just me

Duration: 5pm - 7pm

Tide: out, coming in

Weather: fine. settled. mild. 6˚C

Bait: sandeel, mack, squid

Report:
raided the freezer and found an old bag of bits and pieces so set off for the coast. it was a cool day and it was raining on the way down but when i got to my mark it all settled and it was a great evening 8) chucked out a whole squid bait tipped with mack at distance and a 2 hook flapper with sandeel and mack closer in on a smaller spinning rod. got some good thumps and scraps from a lot of doggies on both rods. reckon i ended up with maybe 6 or 7 doggies and also a small pollack maybe just over 1lb.
was very content as i was just glad to get out and catch a few fish, it was just a lovely settled evening
really thought that 2 of the doggies that i caught were bull huss but with a bit of research now im pretty convinced that they were actually doggies  pics below
i had sized up a few other marks prior to fishing this mark but they were either busy with other fishermen or the water was coloured from the rivers. has anyone an opinion as to how mucky water can affect sea-fishing, if indeed it does..?

Nice going there Chuckaroo, I like getting a few dogfish from the shore esp. when I'm not targetting anything in particular. I must give them a shot sometime soon. Nice pics and I don't claim to know your rock!

cheers JW. aye, i wasnt targeting anything, just blind fishing on the bottom and hoping for a nice surprise of some sort...
so if there isnt much happening after a little while, which there wasnt particularly.., then im always glad for a doggie or two to turn up :) would have been even happier if they had been b.huss tho, ah well
must eat ones of these guys someday..

Great session there Charlie... did you go for any Shark fishing this season? I never get any boat fishing myself... i had booked 3 separate times and all were met with 5+ swells on each occassion and got cancelled.

Back to shore for me...

Hi Wilbert. No i havent ventured down to the south coast this year, even though i still want one of those Blue shark!
if anything, i have been trying to get out on a kayak to fish for tope in Donegal all summer but seem to have had the same problem that you have had... 4or5 times i have organised dates over the summer with a few guys and 4or5 times it has fallen through because of bad weather  the weather has just been stinking this summer..

but anyway, Marc is still travelling the world doin his big game fishing stuff  here's a link to what he was up too last week if you are interested: http://www.360tuna.com/forum/f76/monste ... nia-30879/
read it only if you hope not to get jealous..... :P  he has caught some serious fish in his time - breaking records all the time!
thanks for the comment. maybe get another go at these shark sometime. hopefully get your son one too...
