East Cork Flounder - 2 lbs

#1 Post by Magpie »

People: Pat & myself

Duration: 6.30 to 9.30

Tide: Full at 8

Weather: Mild but got cold. Rolling waves

Bait:Lug, rag, mussel and bit mack

Rigs:Flappers

Results:1 Flounder 2 lbs

Report:
We got to the sandy beach mark we had fished two weeks ago where we had landed 6 small to medium flounder. Set up 2 rods each and I was using black lug on my rods and pat was doing a bit of Masterchef with various offerings on his. Had just got tip on my Greys fixed that day so back into action. No real action for first hour. Bit of weed about to keep us on our toes with rods twitching. I was also using my own home made rigs which i was very happy with until....... I got a ferocious knock on one rod and grabbed it. Was def a big fish and fairly sure was a bass. Happy days. Fighting with the fish until line goes slack and am sure fish is swimming towards shore until eventually realise that I have lost the fish. Pull in my rig to see that one of the knots had given way. My luck is definitely out when I later am hauling in a trace to refresh bait when I pull in some slack line which i assume is a lost line as my other rod is fishing well to the left of it. Decide to snip the line and curse myself when i realise have cut own linewhich somehow had managed to move into path of other rod. We cant get over the lack of any fish. About 2 hours in I am hauling in one line to refresh the bait. It feels like there is a dead weight on end of it. I am certain it is a bloody ton of weed. Major resistance and no twitching to suggest would be a fish. Suddenly I see a very large flounder emerging from the foam. At same time i am also hauling in my trace i had earlier cut by accident, and the two traces and flounder are in a right mess. I dont know was the flounder on the cut trace or the intact one such was the tangle. With new vigour we fish on with optimism restored. Sadly not even another twitch for rest of night. At end of night a fox comes within 5 yards of us and it is so tame you would think it was a household pet. Four rods and a rifle the next night maybe. Weighed flounder at home and was just 2 lbs and 15 inches long.
