Title of the thread is a clue - it was a Bass fishing session. There's another clue where eoghan says no fish were kept all weekend. Next clue would be where he says "one session I had 5 trout before I turned to my mate and said Lets go, we’re just taking trout, no Bass". Final clue is a bit harder to find, but it's here in this thread in the OP.

But just for clarity - no licence is required if you catch and release sea trout as a bycatch when you're fishing for other species.

"They see me fishin......they hatin" :-)

Im just kidding dude, I did try to get acorss a number of times that I dont have a license not were we targeting them.
I couldnt have put it any better than Tanglerat or Chuckaroo did.
But I know its an emotive subject and can upset some people. I only really put up the trout pic for the ID purposes.
Usually I dont mention the fact that we have caught trout for this very reason. Its hard not to encounter them in some areas considering bass are found most closly to estuaries.
The simple fact is I have no interest in any fish other than bass really. I wont turn a nose up at a good fighting pollock..! :-)
Most of the trout were small and I would rather blank than put a small fish through stress for little or no gain. We did leave one mark as it was producing too many trout, and it turns out it cost us but thats the way of it.

according to your comment I assume you have neither read the entire report nor this one here: http://www.sea-angling-ireland.org/bull ... 53&start=0
 sometimes I tend to believe a 'dislike' button would be a welcome addition to the board layout

He wasnt targeting the sea trout so why would Eoghan need a licence and all trout went back unharmed :?

Oooh. Think someone needs to go to bed with a hot water bottle on their tummy....
I read the post. The joke was in asking a question that had been answered a few times in said post. You dont have to find it funny but you shouldnt get so worked up about something you dont understand.
