What lures are you using for wrasse?

#1 Post by redzerologhlen »

Hey guys, have been using 4'' storm wildeye sandeels in holographic for wrasse with great success but after 2 or 3 fish they are in bits to be honest, saying that i dont think any sp would hold up to the chompers on a wrasse for too long. What lures are you using for them and how do you find them? Have been catching pollock and hooked a bass on them the other day aswell.

Those Storm Sand Eels work a treat for most fish alright.

I use xlayers that have been wrecked by bass and glued back together. Wrasse love them.

Any SP will work in my opinion and sometimes the brighter colour the better. Wrasse have serious gnashers so any sp is going to take a hammering. I have often retrieved an sp that has had the bottom bitten clean off.

Alternatives;
You could try Wave worms too...the Bamboo Tikki sticks are fairly durable and last a bit longer.
Any shads...one up shad etc

basically most SP's......wrasse arent too fussy but they are angry when hooked!!!!

Have been using the illex I shads but they are pricey enough, €15 per pack

There are cheaper options out there if they are getting destroyed reguraly.

Joe have a look at those little three inch AGM senkos and get some to match the colour of your wildeyes as the clare wrasse seem to like them. The seem to last longer than most other things I tried and even with the postage they are dirt cheap. Get some greens and blues as well. I cant post a link as I am still using the Witches Macbook and am struggling with using it. There is a link on my blog.

Actually I was speaking to Boycie in Shankill Angling Centre and he mentioned that a few lads were using jelly worm sweets haha. It's crazy to think that we spend all this money on fancy lures and the fish end up goin for a packet of sweets. I must give it a go! :D :D :D

They are excellent to deal with, a lot of the stuff is cheap as chips and delivery is quick. Highly recommend them. There will be a tonne of stuff suitable for what you are looking for.

Hi what are theese lures called? Thanks
I'm nearly sure those lures are ''yoshikawa superworms''

As far as lures go for wrasse I like to stick to sub 4" lures coulour all depends on the day its better to have a selection
and go through them until you get a take.
AGM is great for cheap lures

earth worms might catch you a lot of other things but wrasse, if you want to be selective try the jelly sweets suggestion, water temperatures have to be up a bit though.
