Wicklow today

#1 Post by globulin77 »

People: Me and Noel

Duration:5 Hrs

Tide:2 1/2 on the rise and 2 1/2 on the ebb (think I got my springs mixed up in a previous post)

Weather: Sunny and a flat (flattish) sea

Bait: Rag, Squid, Mackeral, Sand eel, Lures

Rigs: Single pulley, Three hook flapper, Three hook dropper, Single lure, Single hook on a float set up

Results: Abysmal and a specimen.

Skipped a beach mark because I noticed seal hanging around it a couple of times few weeks ago.
Tried a rock mark, got set up and started fishing then two seals show up.
Not a bite for two hours other than the Specimen.....
Packed up and went to a pier and set up....... oh no... they are F&**ing following us.
More seals, not a single bite in over two hours.
Tried all sorts (Bassets), no luck..........
Specimen fish = possibly the smallest Wrasse in Ireland........

Image

Lovely weather though.............

Hard luck mate. What were you fishing for? Although it was only a small Corkwing the nice thing about catching them is that they all look different. I love the range of colours on them! 8)

Initially from the rocks Pollock, coalie and Wrasse.
Fished that mark over 10 years ago and most times it produced nice fish with always lots and lots of decent Wrass about.
Then tried for flats and basically anything that might be tempted to bite hence the float, lure and rig fishing......... Desperation is the mother of invention.
I thought it was a small Wrasse but you tell me its a Corkwing...... Cheers, I need to brush up a bit....... :)
