People: myself, and Me

Duration: daytime couple of hours

Tide: coming in

Weather: overcast and sunny later

Bait: kilty lure, savage gear sandeel, chug bug

Results: 30 + mackeral, lost count

well, i decided to take the plung and try spinning for the first time ever. saw a picture during the week of this mark and i figured i might have a chance at pollock or bass. was on holiday with the missuses and she wanted to shop. happy days, now i can go fish.

i have no waders yet, so i was limited to how far i could get out so i opted to running the lures along weed/rock edges and large boulders. nothing not a thing. i decided to sit for a while to see if i could pick up on any activity then i noticed shoals or small what i thought were sandeels (later found out i was wrong). I was waiting to see if they were being chased or if any broke the surface but all was quiet. i decided to try the savage gear sandeel but again nothing. the kilty looked a bit more like the nature bait in the shoal so i tried that and the bang, bang, bang. mack after mack.

The whole area came alive after that. i've always heard about it but never seen it. the sparts where jumping out of the water up on to the rocks trying to flee. really enjoyable afternoon and its mde me feel more confident to try spinning again. Can't wait to feel something bigger grab the lure as even the mackeral was fun on that ight gear

Nice report, that looks a good spot. The same thing with us the weekend, fishing off the rocks for Bass and the place was full of sprat and the Mullet and Mackerel were gorging themselves. The Mullet were like Basking Sharks with their mouths open one bloke seen the mackerel beach themselves chasing the Sprat.

Looks a great spot for a bass. Any estuary near by? If so I would be fishing it more at dawn or dusk for starters until you work out the pattern. Kilty is a great all round lure. I always have a few with me.

I took the photo just after low tide. there was a 4.2metre tide later that day so the area looked a lot different then. there was a few times when out on the rocks, that my retreat path was covered with water. really need waders.

I know that spot, I have not got Bass there...yet
I know Bass are caught very close by and you can definitely say there are estuaries there

Better bass fishing to the left at low water. Fish the long rock next to the fort but watch for the tide behind you as it floods.
The pipe is a good spot for plaice. I've had some good fish from there when there was plenty of plaice in the harbour. This month and next month should be worth a go.

I actually spotted ye on that mark yesterday when i was checking it out, and a lovley day it was glad ye had a few fish

Was fishing first time down there 7 years ago and still one of my favorite spots for the mac.
Had a good night there tonight as well

Was taking photos from this spot recently and slipped on a mossy rock and sprained my ankle and broke the lens off my camera, so if you do go fishing from that mark, watch out there are a few slippery rocks about!

Any other spots, where the rocks might be slippery ?

Its litterally like the sea the boiling. It was great to have some luck on my first time LRFing.

Tried again yesterday in rough sea near kilmichael point and then Pollshone. kilmichael was great fun but i ruined it by going to pollshone which was basically a washing machine. got a popper caught in blue fishing rope. gt completely soaked trying to cut it free and then got blasted off balance by another wave later. oh and caught nothing ;(

Fished this spot for 2 months (went there nearly every day) 2 years ago...lovely spot, the mackerels are in big numbers over there and you can find some good size pollocks, however, never had much luck with catching a bass at that area

+1 i know that flood...ha ha...can cut ya off in 20 mins..plenty of rockling and pollack there too that will glady take your bait...
have seen big bass taken there with firetails too..nice spot.pity they welded up the fence into the fort...boo
