west cork from the 1/9/12 to 8/9/12

Gavin and i

Duration:4 to 5 hours a day for 5 days

Tide:up and down

Weather fantastic

Bait:sandeel spinners mackerel

Rigs:8 0 wire trace pulley spinners

Results:mackerel pollock scad dogs coalfish bull huss




Report:Pollock was the order of the day myself and gav going light with just spinning gear.we started at the back of the cottage it was two hours into the rise i was jigging a sand eel and gav spinning takin 4 or 5 casts in every little gully gavin was the first to draw blood catching a pollock of about 3lbs the light was fading fast as we worked are way down to dursey sound pollock came on thick and fast both catching pollock every cast.getting quite dark now we moved to a little pier half way down the sound.
i changed to a spinner it seem to clean for a sandeel. with a breeze coming from behind i cast high into the wind it took the spinner far into the channel rod doubled it took quite a while to get him in as the water was rushing through the sound a fantastic looking fish in the clear deep water of the pier luckly there was steps down to the waters edge were i landed him he weighed in at 8lbs 2 the next day the big rods were out of to a deep water mark in the hope of huss gavin was spinning catching 4lb and 5lb pollock every couple of minutes i had to get in on the action setting up my spinning rod with a sandeel and literialy casting at my feet catching pollock every cast and on the big rod a couple of dogs and 2 huss of 3lbs we ended the day with gavin and i catching loads of 4lbs pollock some 5lbs and 6lbs and even a 7lbs thrown in for good measure if you are like me and like to keep on the move catching pollock theres no better place then the beara.
ending our week with well over 100 pollock scores of mackerel scad cole fish dogs and huss.

Great pics, some nice pollack but lovely to see a scad again, havent seen one here in 15 years- one summer a long time ago there were many. Lovely clear picture.
2013 Sea Species:- Bass, Flounder, 5 Beard Rockling, Shore Rockling, Whiting, red gurnard, grey gurnard, Pollack, coley, mackerel, sea trout, cant remember cos I didn't update at the time.....
2012 Sea species:- Pollack, Coley, Mackerel, Cod, Bass, Sea Trout, Haddock, Plaice, Dab, Flounder, Red Gurnard, Grey Gurnard, Pouting, Whiting, Corkwing Wrasse, Ballan Wrasse, Lesser Spotted Dogfish, Brown Trout caught on beach.
2011 Sea species:- codling, L.S. dogfish, coley, whiting, pollack(4lb 3oz), sea trout, shore conger eel (15lb), ballan wrasse, grey gurnard, plaice, dab (and lobster).

great pollocks guys,ya nice to see a scad,,we wont see too many as the the rswpelagic trawlers are fishing for them now,,in one of the pics there seem sto be a nice sandy patch,,,surprised ye didnt try for a ray or flat

Ballydonegan strand, is a man made beach and a very deep one at that we will be fishing it next month brian

weather looks brill, great pics. very fine pollack fishing there.
and aye, nice to see a scad. caught one about 7 years ago but none since. hope ye ate it cos they taste great!
