Trabeg near minard, Kerry, 2-sep-12

#1 Post by jgraham768 »

People: myself and two buddies

Duration: 4hrs

Tide: 3hrs to high and one on the ebb

Weather: glorious

Bait: sandeel, lugworm & assorted lures

Rigs: 2/0 pulleys, 2 hook flapper

Results: flat zero

Report:
weather was nice on Sunday so we decided to get a spot of fishing done. I had a pulley out with lug while the two lads had sandeels, one with pulley the other with the flapper. We were waiting a while lobbing the baits into the mouth of the river up and down over and back and had nothing so we said we'd leave the bait sit and try a few lures, had some softbait sandeels, berkley ripple shads, spoons, spinners and grubs and had nothing. I took a sit down then to spark a smoke and know sooner had I took out my lighter and my rod dived, reel screaming I struck into it and she kept running. Started to crank it back in and TWANG my line went soft not even the swivel left on it. Went back to sit down and my smokes were in a rock pool. Awful day overall but at least I got a colour.
A bad days fishing is still better then a good day at the office.

And you were outside for a few hours on a glorious day. Can't beat being outside on a nice day.................... :)
I guess if we caught fish every time we went out it just wouldn't be fishing anymore.
A blank or two makes for better days ahead............. :)

Beautiful spot and can be a great beach for bass, turbot etc....but I have found it, like many marks I suppose, its unpredictable. I found it fishes best over low water either before sunrise or at dusk, preferably with a surf on it.

Ya I think that the weather was a bit too nice for it but there was a good rolling tide on the flood at the same time

I fished minard this time last year and caught loads of dogs and a pollack. Tried trabeg one day, tide was out and wasnt sure where you would fish there even if the tide was in. Being from belfast needed some local knowledge i suppose.

We fished Trabeg last week and only caught Dogfish despite good conditions, it used to fish well over a low water spirng years ago but in recent times the ebb has produced more for us , saying that it has not fished well at all during the last two years , all that seems to be there is very small Turbot , lots of Dogs and the odd Bass.

Ya they day we were there two punts went out to the mouth of little bay thats there, hauling nets no doubt! One returned within the hour with two or three fish boxes stacked up at the bow. There was a man in a van with binoculars looking out from kinard car park where we were planning to go first but he said that we'd have better luck at trabeg.
