North County Wexford 05/09/12

#1 Post by FMCN »

People:me

Duration:20.00-22.30

Tide:rising lw was about 18.00 or so

Weather:calm windless evening

Bait:peeler crab

Rigs:pulley pennells

Results: 5 smooth hound and dogfish

Report:I had been out all day after flounder in south wexford with no success so i finished of by heading to a favourite spot in north wexford with hopes high of a late smoothie. I wasn't disappointed. Arrived and was set up and fishing by 8ish. Baits in the water for 10 minutes when i had the first hound on. Landed and while unhooking the second rod went. I had another 2 shortly after. Four fish from 4lb, the best close to 6 all taken as the light was fading. Then it went dead and not a bite for an hour, then the first dogfish appeared and they kept on coming. I had just about decided to start home when i had the last smoothie of the day around 10. Gave it another half hour but just more dogs. Well worth the drive.

Just took the one photo of the first fish probably 4 lb+

Thanks Gerry, yea tried for flounder at 2 marks but not a touch, still well pleased with the hounds later on.

Thanks Eoghan, just back from 2 weeks down with the family, got a bit of fishing in. Plenty of thornies and wrasse and a few bass as well, but really after a big small eyed/painted ray. Had a few last year in August but not this time. I plan a week down myself in the next few weeks.

Hi rdd. They certainly hit you. Nothing like the take for their size.

Ha ha Rodge - Now I feel like a woman who has never had an orgasm..!!! :-)
I keep meaning to go after them but those bass goggles are welded on...! I swear its an addiction.
I have 2 year old twins so I dont get out as often so when I do I go after the silver lads.
I am mad about lure fishing to be honest, just cant beat that moment when the lure stops dead and your heart starts racing..!

Francis - would ye mind sending me a PM for where ye caught the ray..? Never caught one of those either, (I can hear rodger hit the floor) if the fishing is quiet it might be a decent alternative. My plan is to get up at 5am ish and gead off with the two lure rods and a backpack and walk from Brandon to cloghane.
