East Cork Beach 1-Sep-12

#1 Post by shortcircuit »

People:
Me
Duration:
11:00- 17:20
Tide:
Low-High

Weather: Nice, Fresh Westerly Breeze

Bait: Razor, Crab

Rigs: 4/0 Pulley, 2/0 Flapper

Results: Nada

Report:

Other half was working so decided to get a good session in. Arrived at low water, weather beautiful. Set up and put out the pulley at distance on the heavier rod and lobbed out a flapper on the lighter rod. Not a tap for a couple of hours, was alternating the baits between the rigs in order to cover all the bases.

Then about three o clock halfway into the flood the close range rod (which had the flapper baited with razor at the time) got hit like a train, the rod nearly doubled over in the tripod. Picked up and tried to connect with the fish but it was gone!

Reeled in to find one of the snoods had come away from a swivel, the knot had failed! Sickened. Baited the rig up with razor as fast as I could and popped it out to the exact same spot but nothing more.

Fished the tide all the way to the top but no joy. So as not to go hungry I picked up and headed off to Ballycotton where the macks were in in a patchy fashion. Picked up a dozen for bait and for dinner that night

Nothing worse than when that happens.

i've had knots come undone, swizels snapped and 6 year old line snapping on me over the last few weeks. each time when something big was at the end of my line. sickening. i got all new main/leader/rig/snood lines for this reason, and started using the uni-knot which seems to be much stronger that the half blood i used since i was a kid
