1st September
People: Me, Willie & Padraig
Duration: 12.00-19.00
Tide: 6.30ish
Weather: windy from all directions, SW, S, NW , W
Bait: lug and crab
Rigs: various
Results: 0 bass & 2 good flounder
Report: After the previous days boat fishing I was hoping for a repeat of same but the wind was too strong. So we headed for a local rock mark and fished from 12.00 -15.00 hoping to catch a bass or 4 over the low water mark. Having collected some monstrous black lug and crab from Cortaz we were armed with the best of bait. There was a very strong offshore wind and I suspected that would not be good for fishing. Little happened except for mountains of weed on the line and so we finally gave up and moved in the Youghal direction to try for some flounders.
We fished the tide the rest of the way up. The water was bog coloured and I suspected that this would mean fishing would be poor and sure enough we had 2 hours with no bites. Then all of a sudden my rod did a dance and I was sure that I had a bass. Even the fight was bass like with the fish pulling like mad. Low and behold in came a dinner plate sized flounder….certainly my biggest. I weighed him later in the shop at 1.39KG which is 3.1lb.
Then Willie decided to move further up the shore and returned with a “small” flounder of about 1.5lb.
Happy days

Re: W. Waterford
Nice flounder Stan, that certainly is dinner plate size, well done.
Everyone should believe in something; I believe I’ll go fishing.

Re: W. Waterford
Thanks lads. I was very happy with it. Nothing nicer than a nice flounder cooked in butter.
I reckon that bass fishing will improve now as September and October are the best months. The rod is out, the lures are ready , the reel is oiled and blood pressure is up
. If not i'll just have to catch more flounder
