Killoughter, Co Wicklow,,,,,then North Wexford beach 25-8-12

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

IMPORTANT NOTICE This report is not about an individual fisherman and his quest to seek glory and fame,,,,,,,,,,,it's all about giving out information and tips. e.g. state of the tide, weather, bait, rigs etc, etc. Therefore no individuals catch will be reported in this report. It's a team effort

People:me, Fishface, Mitch

Duration:8pm-11pm

Tide:dropping

Weather:calm,dry

Bait:crab, sandeel, rag

Rigs:pulleys and flappers

Results:smoothound, flounder, weevers and schoolie Bass

Report:After negotiating the potholed road to Killoughter,,,,,,which has been seemingly resurfaced,,,,kinda  ,,,,,myself and Mitch headed down to the beach. We were stopped in our tracks by Fishface,,,,,who was giving it the thumbs down after reeling in a pile of weed  It was decided to up sticks and head for a North Wexford beach which had been producing for them during the week  . So off we went,,,,,another 30 mins or so further south. Mitch was leading and as we left the N11 and hit the back roads, I was trying to keep track of the turns for the return trip in the darkness  . "RIGHT,RIGHT ,,,,LEFT,,,,,,,,,,,,,RIGHT, RIGHT, ,,,,,LEFT",,,,I repeated to myself when we arrived. I was going to write it down but decided that I wasn't that stoopid to forget those simple directions,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,was I  Surely I couldn't forget it  . The beach was ideal,,,,,,,,,,and with the vehicles right behind us in full view we could relax and fish away in peace  . We caught our first Smoothie on the first cast,,,,,,,happy days,,,,,,,,although the trio of "Young Wans" fishing near us weren't too impressed when Fishface asked them "Have you ever seen one as big as this before :?:" Our next smoothie was caught a short while later, also on crab, but sadly it was our last as the dropping tide put paid to our efforts  . There were plenty of flounder to be had, these were taken on ragworm,,,,,,,,,,,, and later on we got a nice schoolie Bass. Once again,,,,,,the weevers were about,,so beware if you're paddling your feet  With no more smoothies to be had,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and the crab coming back untouched,,,,,I was losing the will to live so I decided to pack up. We left just before 11pm,,,,,,,promising to come back on a rising tide  . As I drove down the narrow roads,,,,,,,I kept repeating "RIGHT,RIGHT,,,,,,,LEFT,,,,,,,,,,,,,RIGHT ,,,,,RIGHT ,,,,LEFT,",,,,,,,,,,,but I must have left out a left or a right or else added in an extra one  ,,,,,,,,,,because 25 minutes later I ended up back not too far from where I started out  Ah, well ,,,,,at least I didnt get a puncture or a breakdown on the little boreen as it would have been a challenge directing a recovery vehicle to my location :? .
EPILOGUE
Eyesreilly arrived home safely 1 hour and 45 minutes after leaving that beach. Killoughter was later declared weed free so we neednt have moved at all,at all
