Bass hunt, Waterford, steep rocky beach, 28th July '12

#1 Post by John D »

People:Mise agus Anthony

Duration:22:00 to 02:00

Tide:Neap, high at about 02:05

Weather:Light/Mod Westerlies, occasional light shower, about 10 degrees, good water clarity, small to medium sized waves

Bait:N/A

Rigs:A variety of hard plastics & soft plastics

Results:1 bass (kind of)

Report:I was twitching a black 5" weedless yamasenko slowly. As I paused to talk to Tony my line and rod started to jump. My lure was probably static on the sea bed at the time. I asked Tony if he'd crossed my line. He asked if I was messing and just as he finished talking my line started hissing off the reel and the rod almost jerked from my hand. Long story short I had the fish at my feet and asked Tony to grab it. He slowly manouvered his boga grip when my fluro leader snapped. Tony made a grab for the fish. He actually felt the weight of it against his hands but it was too quick. Off it swam with hook and lure in mouth :-( So what do people think - will you give me that one?

Tight lines,
John D.

Couldnt resist posting that earlier just to see ur face.Put the voodoo doll away buddy.Anyways i was talking to tony on the phone when he got back and he said it was a cracking fish.Well done and well deserved. But im having my doubts about the south at the moment, gonna start hitting dublin marks instead ,we could have belters here under our noses and were travelling all the way down there for 1 fish per session atm.

btw can anyone advise on bass fishing in malahide, balbriggan, dublin areas wouldnt mind putting in some lure hours in on the home turf !!!!

I think my fluro might be too light. It's 6.5kg which is about 14lb but that's the second snap off I've had this year! The other thing is that I've had it about 3 or 4 years now. Obviously not the same piece on the end of my braid
