Report:Decided to give the old head a bash ....was going to go to Sandycove but there was some triathlon thing going on and a queue of traffic to get there so kept on going the old head. Got to the old head and made the trecherous decent down to the rocks ....my god im out of shape . Well got down safely and got to a little piece of rock by an entrance to a big cave and started with some jelly lures....my first time using these so wasnt sure on the retrieval speed of these, lost one on a snag but got the hang of it after a few casts.
Very quiet fishing wise but a gorgeous day sat on the rocks casting away. Ended up with one small pollock which was caught on a jelly so i was quite pleased with the fact that they do catch fish. Now looking for a spot for next week to go for a variety of fish maybe One of the beaches down Ballycotton way with the beachcaster and some baits

Nice one. The jellies do work with pollack. Theres a fair few utubes on pollack fising around Ireland. Using wormed jellies with a weedless hook and a drilled bullet lead can and does work wonders.
Saying that, using silver mackerel flashers at your feet would make you wonder how clever these fish really are

On your next trip out, best to have several different colours.
Work your spot for 8 mins at different depts (retrieve speeds) then change colour. Black with red tail is my my goto club. Orange, white, blue? They are pretty unclever fish, however, the trick is knowing where the hang out.

I did bring a few different colours but the black with red tails werent available in the shop. i caught the one on a pure bright red and had a bite on a glittery green and silver. The browns i had didnt seem to attract anything but rocks and weed . Well the tackle box is getting full of ammunition, and had a few nice chaps on here give me theheads up where to head out too so im not dis-heartened in any way.....perseverence is the name of the game. another way off catching pollock is get some rag worm and fish them about 1.5 ft under a couple of split shot on a 2/0 hook cast out and let it sink close to the bottom and then start to retrive slowly i find this a killer way of catching them also a great way of geting wrass and if the weather is a bit rough just add a extra shot also works with frozen sandeel useing the same method

Cheers tight lines will bear that in mind for my next jolly for the pollock . Had my first wrasse the other day and didnt realise how hard they take a bait ....and that was a lug on the beach caster, so can imagine how hard they going to hit a ragworm on a light tackle set up ....
