East Cork beaches, Weever warning!
Just a quickie.... Following on from a session on Ballybrannigan last night which was intended primarily to chase golden grey mullet which meant fishing very small single maddie baits on size 10s myself and Scotsman were somewhat amazed at the volume of Weever fish we caught. We managed a lot of small fish, no golden greys sadly although we did see them, including flounder, turbot, pollack, dogs, bass, coalies etc but it's without exaggeration that I tell you we also managed 25 to 30 Weevers. The majority of these were taken over high water on small baits at about 5 to ten yards from shore. On saying that, they were also taking bigger baits targeting flounder and turbot. Ive never seen as many from the shore. Customary advice is to avoid walking on wet sand around low water on big tides, these were all at high water and on the baits in seconds. Worth bearing in mind if you fancy a paddle in east Cork in the near future!! Mind yourselves!
