Cheap Hrt spring alternative

#1 Post by Chris Mc »

HRT springs can be very expensive but here is the cheap alternative.

Buy a packet of thick elastic bands (approx 2 Euro for 200)

Cut the elastic bands into 3 inch strips or as long as needed for the rig.

Take two beads and using superglue attatch one to each end of the elastic band.

Attatch one bead on the rig body above the swivel to which your trace wll be attatched and the other to the body of the trace using crimps.

Continue the rig as a normal clipped down rig.
Ensure that the distance between the beads is longer than the length of elastic so as to put tension on the hook when clipped down thus holding the trace in place under tension.
See diagram in my personal Gallery.

Don't use those spring things - way too complicated! How about a short length 1 1/2 inch of small diameter (1mm) silicone tubing in place of the spring. Would have a fair bit of give/compression during the cast...

When I first saw this post I thought it was for tips on a Springtime alternatives to Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). I was thinking this was very New Age man and all that.......

Nevertheless, the tips sound handy and I'll give them a try.
