Wicklow Town - Kit Dunne - 16th & 17th June

#1 Post by CEng »

People:7 Adults from Carrigaline DSAC & 1 Junvenile
Duration:2 Day Charter on Wicklow Boat Charters (Kit Dunne)
Tide: Small
Weather:Saturday windy with showers / Sunday fine all day
Bait:15 Dozen Peelers / Mackeral / Squid
Rigs:All sorts
Results:Smoothound / Bull Huss / Thornback Ray / Blonde Ray / Dogfish / Tub Gurnard / Grey Gurnard / Whiting / Codling / Dabs

Report:I had booked Kit Dunne soon after he started his new charter business late last year. I had fished out of Wicklow Town this time last year with Kit, but out of a small boat. We had big numbers of Smoothound in 2011 which included 2 specimens. We all looked forward to this weekend. We left Cork on Friday evening, picked up 15 dozen fresh peeler crab on the way. We fished the bay on Saturday as the weather wasn't great due to the severe gails which battered the coat on the previous Thursday and Friday. Results were mixed. We caught Smoothies, Huss, Dogs and a few Gurnard. The water clarity (or lack of) may have had a part to play in it.
Sunday looked better with sunshine to greet us and a flat sea. We left the pier @ 08.00 and travelled South for around 10 miles. We hit fish straight away. We had as many Huss as we did Smoothies. Uptiding seemed to be the more productive method. We caught some nice ray also which included a nice Blonde Ray for John Dennehy, Captain of this years Home Nations Boat Team (Good luck to all involved in this years team). As the tide picked up in the afternoon the Smoothies arrived in numbers, with alot of fish around the 5lb mark. We had one specimen on the day which touched the scales at just over 7 lbs.
All in all we had a great weekend. Kit looked after us very well indeed, even organising very affordable accommadation for the 2 nights.
