LRF Setup

#1 Post by jack01986 »

Was wondering what breaking strain line people use at the end of their braid. Got properly smashed the other day by a nice Pollack. I was probably undergunned as I was only using 4lb fluorocarbon but wasnt expecting something that big to come along. Any suggestions?

I'm using 6lb floro which is probably considered a bit on the heavy side for lrf. I've heard some guys using 2-3lb leaders

In saying that some of the locations i fish can be weedy so the extra strength comes in handy

Ye I was thinking maybe a little stronger to help with the weed etc. Sure will see how its goes should help improve my playing of fish on the lighter line anyway :D .

Depending what im doing I use either 2-3lb fluro mainline, 3lb mono mainline or 6lb braid with 5-6lb leader for my lrf.

Went out again today with the same set up and spent a good while trying to ge this one wrasse eventually managed to get him after changing leader lengths and hook size. The line was strong enough for the other fish last time I think just had the drag set wrong and needed to let the rod absorb some of the diving.

Dunno if that 80lb wire would run through the eyes on the rod Roger! :D
