Hey lately ive decidied to get back into the auld fishing again and just thought id check with you lot whether or not Howth Pier is still a decent place to fish ect, or would i be better strolling out to dun laoghaire. I used tobe a member of the Howth S.A.C as a kid for a few years and am gonna join back up this month, my dads already a member so its all good!
Im just wondering what peoples experiences are of Howth pier, if any, ive fished Claremont Beach a couple of times a caught a few small flats but thats about it.
So any views!!

It depends what you are fishing for. There are plenty of Conger for instance. You can pick up wrasse and pollack float fishing from the knuckle to the lighthouse of the far pier. Also when all the mackie bashers have gone home on a September's evening the place can literally come alive with small pollack under your feet at the far lighthouse. You'll catch pin whiting with the odd codling in winter, although it can be very scratchy.
Bass are caught at Claremount every year, but you've gotta put plenty of hours in to get one, and peeler is the only bait worth using. However they tend to be larger fish if you do come across one. Just don't walk out onto the sandbanks because you're likely to get cut off (do'h - won't forget that experience for a long time!)
