Re: smoothie tips
East wind usually chops up the water on the east cost witch ant good for hounds , I find that they like calm sea's but not too calm, a but of movement and a small swell I find best but others might disagreetempah wrote:does a rough or moderate sea produce hounds,or does it need to be calm, also is an easterly wind a no go

Re: smoothie tips
Agree with Paul, a bit of chop or a light surf is far better than flat calm.paul skelly wrote:East wind usually chops up the water on the east cost witch ant good for hounds , I find that they like calm sea's but not too calm, a but of movement and a small swell I find best but others might disagreetempah wrote:does a rough or moderate sea produce hounds,or does it need to be calm, also is an easterly wind a no go

Re: smoothie tips
my tip is make sure they are there to start with,
i find pennel rigs with 2,os the best ,with smallish baits when theres not too many about/crabs that is heehee,a auerilieon, hope i got the spelling right,my old pal, anyway enough of that,up and overs if its calm, and if its rough snoods of about 2 ft up high and6 inches from the lead hope you understood all that anyway the coyser fishing a long time now but like all of us,not enough
hope to get out this weekend, aye chuck, even rice crispies stay quite when hes around

Re: smoothie tips
its all about the size of fish that are around and how big a bait you want to use i carry several differnt size pully rigs with longer snoods if i,m fishing in a strong run ,from a size 2 pennel up to size 5/0 with a 3/0 pennel hook ,this might sound big but its often the one i use if i,m not getting hit ,big baits put out big scent trails ,if i miss some bites i,ll drop down to sometimes using a size 2 kamazan and half a small crab on a two hook flapper unfortunatly its trile and error till you find out whats working bestNoelo5 wrote:Anyone know if 1/0 are big enough for smoothys or should I be going bigger thanks...?

Found the culprits on my second set of traps ... Big fat eels
Went out Saturday to check a promising mark, got a few bites, but no fish landed
Did you went out terrorising those little fellas?
Hope you get more luck than me
See you around ...

Re: smoothie tips
Only back to fishing now after a five year break. used to be regular on the forum but i forgot my username
Went down to Wexford last week and oh boy was i in for some treats.
First evening we got a few nice sized ray from dodds rocks (courtown north beach) fished the ocean side of the sandbar using rag only.
Next evening got 2 nice 6-7 pound hounds on the courttown south beach near the borrow. uptide from the river, again on the sandbar. Had a massive wallop of a bite in the slough which i'm convinced was a bass but i struck too early. used pellers and rag.
But the highlight was the 10 pound bass i saw caught on roney point. I wish it would have been me, but i was delighted for him anyway.
