Limerick SAC ????
Has anyone any updates on how the formation of the new SAC in Limerick is getting on. I know that Steve and Kieran from the Steves shooting and fishing store submitted the necessary documents to the IFSA some time back.

Hi John,
I was told the same before chrismas but when I asked again a month or so ago he said he'd left the orgainisation to one of his customers and hadn't heard anything more from him. Maybe I'm wrong but It sounded to me like it has gone by the wayside so I haven't asked about it since. Its a real pity theres no sac for limerick. I like fishing with Shannon ac but the drivings a pain when the fishing close at home is as good.

There should be a SAC for the Limerick side of the estuary/north kerry region. There are plenty of anglers in this area. To set up a club you need 12 signatures , €300 and a set of rules/conservation statement. This is then submitted to the IFSA who do their bit, eventually.
A club would be good for all anglers as it is an excellent way for anglers to learn new angling skills and meet other anglers who have the same passion as them. You will learn alot by fishing competitions that will be of use, when you go pleasure angling. Getting beat in competitions is a good learning experience.
Anglers in this area should get organised to promote and encourage angling . It is a shame that there is not a club.

Hi John,
I'd agree with the amount that learnt at competitions. I'd love to fish a few competitions on the South shore of the Estuary to find out if I'm missing something. I don't think there's any problem with getting names of people interested (steve had more than 20) but you really need 10 anglers turning up to every competition. From trying to orgainise forum get togethers and looking for new members of Shannon AC I've found a small proportion of those people that say there interested actually turn up. I'm sure they'd like to turn up but work family and everything else get in the way. After that is getting a committee. I know steve was asking a few lads to run it for him and was turned down and I can't say I'd blame them.
Saying that I'd be interested in doing what I can to start up a south shore estuary AC. Shannon FC recently left the IFSA as they found they could get the same insurance and not have to pay the extra for affiliation. One of things discussed when doing this was for last few year we weren't insured as we hadn't put the list of fixtures to be approved by the IFSA.

Hi Donagh,
I didn't know that about shannon SAC. So Shannon SAC are not IFSA affilated anymore. Was the insurance reasonable?
If a club " South Estuary SAC" was to be set up mabay this would be the way to go, at least it would mean that we would not have to deal with all the red tape from the IFSA. We could get a cllub up and running alot quicker this way and if need be in the future affiliate to the ifsa.

Hi John,
I think it worked out at over 20 euros each for 20 members for standard public liability insurance. Our membership is 30 euros each and that wasn't covering IFSA insurance and levies.
The downside if a club went this option is not being able to fish in opens unless a member of another club, other IFSA members not being able to fish the clubs competitions and no entry to the master angler.

Hi Lads,
I personnely wouldn't know where to start with running a club or know enough people and I definately would lack the knowledge of which marks/tides to pick.
I think the best thing is to get onto steve about getting a club setup. Next time I'm in I'll ask. I don't get into town that often so if anyone else is in there could they ask as well.
In the mean time I think the best step is call a few forum meets for the south shore of the Estuary starting june or july when the fishing is better.
