Dublin Boat Marks (IMELDA)31/5/2012

#1 Post by JOHN1 »

People:me and harry

Duration:9am - 7pm

Tide:edd/flood

Weather:mixed

Bait:rag macks launce crab squid

Rigs:various

Results: 12 species. macks,launce,LSD,grey gurnard,whiting,dabs,pollack,coalies,ballan wrasse,goldsinny wrasse,Herring,poor cod.

Report:looked at the forecast on tuesday they were giving light SW winds so a plan was made to launch around 830 to make a nice long day of it.
on arrival we noticed the flags were in full flight with a fairly stiff SE blowing, you guessed it they got it wrong again
so off we went the first drift we managed a half dozen macks happy days we had fresh bait :D next stop off was at my launce mark and sure enough they were there we bagged about 20 in a few minutes so off we headed into a not very nice wind against tide sea in search of bigger things, they didnt oblige, all we had for our troubles were dogs more dogs and to top them off a few dabs whiting and nice grey gurnards, at this stage we were on 6 species so we knocked the amimal fishing on the head wnd went in search of a few species to beat last weeks 10
off we went to the reefs and soon enough we had a bit of fun with the pollack and a couple of coalies.
next stop was in search of the poor cod and soon enough we had a few take the baits, with a surprise few herring 8) to finish off we went after wrasse we managed a few ballans and a couple of Goldsinny's. at this stage we still had not manages to catch a single codling :?
all in all a reasonable days fishing :D

cheers brian, were the herring you got all as small as our ones :?:
i am of the thinking that the ones we had might be sprats, i dont know much about them to be able to tell the differance but i seen a picture of a herring someone caught last year and they dont look the same.

i wonder can anyone here tell what species it is please :?:
