Mullet - Estuary

#1 Post by nimucker »

Hi, I spend my summer holidays in Donegal. Just beside the place where we stay there is a large tidal bay - when the tide is out the shoals of mullet patrol up and down the channel.

I have never caught a Mullet before and fancy a crack at them. The channel runs fairly quickly. Can someone give me a few tips on the best technique to use to target them?

Thanks

Find the deepest slowest part of the channel and use an onion bag with piece of polystyrene and broken up bread then wait for the shoal to feed (not just one or I'll spook them all)then go slightly up stream from the bag and free line small pieces of bread no weights just mainline to hook, hopefully it works but u could also try maddies

Have a read here http://www.sea-angling-ireland.org/bull ... =1&t=39555

I`ve never tried freelining the bread but always ment to.. If you are struggling to get the bread down to the fish then use a small float to help trot the bread into position.
Keep a low profile or you risk spooking the fish..
