Hounds, North Dublin

#1 Post by Chris T »

Hi all,

I'm hoping to go out after hounds and having seen the post on North Dublin hounds the other day I had a few questions that I hoped to have answered:

1. Will I catch them above the low water mark when the tide is on it's way in... Basically do I need to find a spot that will allow a cast into deep water, even at low tide?

2. Is it better to fish sand rock or mixed ground?

3. Are there any alternatives to Crab when targetting hounds?

4. Has anyone caught these around Skerries???

Any other suggestions? and please dont say head south......

Head South :!:   Just kidding.

Fish LW up to see what time of the tide is working best for the area you are going to fish.

Fish near or off rocks onto Sand. Sometimes a rocky headland that offers access to slightly deeper water can work.

King Rag can be a good alternative

Skerries would be worth a try. I've never heard of them off Skerries, but they have been caught fairly close, so you never know. The main reason we don't hear of them off Skerries is because nobody tries from there

no1 as said king rag and big lug baits will get them but crab is no.1 bait
no2 fishing onto sand is best less chance of loosing a big hound to the rocks
no3 never heard of any being got from skerries but you never know give it ago and find out
no4 make sure you tackle is up to the job as a hound will find any weakness and always make sure the tip of you hook is showing i find the best rig is a pennel pully

best of luck
