killiney beach - This place is alive!

#1 Post by myworldfishing »

People: Myself and 2 mates:

Duration: late:

Tide: Up and down:

Weather: Absolutely fabulous:

Bait: Rag, Lug, Mac and squid:

Rigs: all types:

1 3 inch flounder:

We arrived at the mark on the incoming and started to get the gear un-packed, within minutes of arriving we got approached by a guy and the first words from his mouth was " you know there's a bass ban on! "..... I was happy and annoyed at the same time, Happy because its good to see Irish lads looking after the bass and the rules, but annoyed because there is more than just bass in Irish water... Also I have never had a bass off Killiney so my target was coalies and flounder.

We ended up chatting to the lad for a bit, turned out to be a nice bloke. He was telling us about the guy on the beach in a thong, which happened to be TRUE!!

We setup early in the oncoming tide and put our bait out. While waiting and sunning our selves we had a show from some of the local dolphins jumping about 5 foot out of the water and what looked like chasing down food, they stayed there most of they time we were there and by their behavior all I can say is they were herding the fish into the center of the 3 and then all 3 would come flying out of the water. The the seal arrived, which was MASSIVE! and he joined the dolphins in catching fish, cormorant, and them diving gulls. All the signs said there was loads of fish there....

We left the beach late and deflated after catching crabs and 1 3 inch flounder. But TBH the dolphins was the highlight of the trip.

there definitly bass in killiney my pb of 12.5 lb is from there wait til the ban is over wait till august or early septemper and try the rocks with peeler crab  meanwhile there should be excellent wrasse sport from the rough ground past the tea rooms now to big ragworm or crab ya might even pull a resident cod or two at distance .. killiney can be an aladdins cave if fished right and at the right time 8)

The thong fella is all right. He likes the sea and nature so all he needs now is a fishing rod.

List 2011: less fish

2012: less fish again,

2013: even less fish.
