cork harbour

#1 Post by screeming reels »

People:2

Duration:7 hours

Tide:high to low

Weather:clear skies, fresh east wind 5-6

Bait:mackeral, rag and squid

Rigs:shrimp rig pennel rigs , flowing traces

Results: Specimen Blonde ray, lots of LSD's , Launce! and 3 b rockling

Report:
Was getting withdrawl symptoms , having not been able to get out for a month, so went for a safe bet to get some fishing in at cork harbour.
weather was fine, but with a nagging fresh east wind, we didnt hold out hope of much sport.
But , as with all fishing trips, you just never know what might turn up, and so it proved , firstly we tried for plaice and any flats, but started catching large launce, a big suprise, and some great bait!
we then anchoured and targeted the blondes.
Well a few dogs came along, which again was unusual for the turbot bank, and after half an hour i got a great run from a large ray, it turned out to be a specimen blonde, we went ashore to weight the fish and it touched 29lbs 3 oz, a PB for me, only disappointment was, i only had my mobile phone camera to take pictures, so i am now trying to download them onto my computer, ( not my strongpoint) but as soon as i have i will try and post them, the fish was returned alive.
It turned out to be the only blonde to turn up , but a good one!
after some more dogfish , we moved to the harbour rock to try for conger, but no joy, just a nice 3 bearded rockling on a pirk!! ( its the only way to catch them)
not a bad day for the time of year, with a great bonus of the ray.it certainly made the trip worthwhile, i just hope the specimen commitee will accept the mobile phone picture
