Sorry Mike, thats the scientist in me coming out!!!
But the jet stream does have a big control on our weather patterns. For example last summer it was quite weak and lay to the south, giving us a rather cold but dry summer. Unfortuately it then moved northwards in early September and allowed the series of Atlantic depressions to roll in and wreck the lure fishing for the remainder of the year.

Ideally what we need is for the jet stream to lie just off the south coast during the summer to stop the southwesterlies so that we have a calm dry summer for lure fishing, then in October it should move north so that we get some good storms to bring in the cod.
Cod season Winter 2013/14: 117 cod (best fish: 6.5 lbs)

Im a scientist too Frank well at least thats what the crumpled bit of paper in my filing cabinet says  You may be spot on in what your saying and if it works for you then good for you ,but for me its just too much overkill,id rather be out and about rather than waiting for perfect conditions and even better if a fish or two come along.
Fishing is supposed to be a relaxing pastime for me and id prefer to try keep it that way.Havin said that a good diary with proper details entered over several years is invaluable. 8)
I will be watching this space so best of luck in your endevours. :)
All the best.
