Help for LRF Newbie

#1 Post by Drew »

Hey Guys, had a bit of spare cash sitting about so decided to get myself a very light rod & reel combo to try this LRF business.
It's an Abu Devil light spin, 5'6, and is rated 2-10gr, combined with a shakespear Mach 1xt Reel which I've loaded with 6lb berkley braid.
My main question is about the terminal end of things, what are you guys using lurewise? Also what breaking strain of fluro should I be using for the like of traces/leaders? Anyone know where I can pick up a few micro jigheads?
All info on this new branch of the sport will be more than welcomed! 8)

Hey drew,
I'll be the first to say welcome to the dark side lol...been doin the LRF for 2 months now mate and you can't go wrong with the myraku power isome in Brown on a 2 or 3 gram size 4 jighead. Check out the art of fishing website plenty of stuff there for LRF altho I'd suggest getting one of the ecogear pocket in sets. They come with a selection of lures and jigheads. Another couple of lures that's workin for me is the bug ant and the grass minnow. Hope this helps mate
Cheers

Drew check out http://www.agmdiscountfishing.co.uk and jackslrf.co.uk get stuff from them all the time. both are good lads to deal with. Also Mike Sullivan at rock-fishing.blogspot.co.uk has some good stuff on his blog to read on the LRF side of things.
As Jonny G says Ben at the art of fishing is the man to talk to about geting the ecogear pocket in sets  Theres loads of stuff out there on the net about LRF in are waters.

some good reading @ http://smells-kinda-like-fish.blogspot.com/

checkout the blog archives.

Also can go wrong with http://www.artoffishing.co.uk for lures; although the £5 postage means you probably want to buy in bulk or its very expensive:-(

any of the harbours/piers would be good bet. remember your fishing for small sized fish 99% of the time :!:
