Wanted to hit some ray on the east coast but because we never targeted them before and couldn't find a decent looking spot we decided to hit ennareilly in the hope of flounder and maybe some Bass.
Arrived there at 7 and there was about 11 lads out. So got talking to them and not one fish had been landed from 11 that morn, knowing ennareilly and knowing that its better at night we setup anyway. It was actually nice to be sitting on a beach with my line getting wet and the sun warming the back of me neck. As the sun started to fall and dusk started to kick in, the bites began to happen.
First in was a doggie, I was happy just to see a fish, but then a small flounder came in next which perked me a little more....
About 20 mins later my first fish landed was a whiting, I got that sinking feeling. Its now dark and we started to sweat because it was frantic, no sooner was the line in the water was the rods getting hammered, at one stage my rod lept of the stand so I grabbed it and felt the tug and struck.
I thought it was a monster, The fight was strong, but I landed a doggie that was no bigger than 2lbs, they were on steroids last night. Each doggie was fighting that hard that we honestly thought they were huge until landed. Allot of them had purses hanging out of them so I assume when doggies are spawning they put up a better fight?
Any way, It got that bad that each of us went down to 1 rod because it was getting to a stage where both rods were getting hit at the same time.
All in all it was a great night and also the first time Iv worked up a sweat while fishing.
