South Dublin and N. Wicklow 22-4-12

#1 Post by Sweetwrasse »

People: Jack01986 and Myself

Duration: 3 marks- 14.30 to 21.15

Tide: LW at 17.50

Weather: Bit of offshore breeze, mostly dry.

Bait:Rag, lug and Mack

Rigs:Mark 1+2; LRF lures. Mark 3; flappers and pulleys

Results: LSDs and a lonesome flounder.

Report: Had a fishing itch that just needed scratching at some point over the weekend so a quick text to the ever-ready Jack01986 and a plan was made. Decided to stay within a handy drive and just take in some relaxing fishing.
Got to a favourite rock mark at 14.30 and wasn't long in getting going with a 3.5 gram jig-head and a pink 'Power Isome' worm. These had done the job the last day but weren't getting any hits :( Rummaged deeper into the box of tricks and tried a few different lures which resulted in a few bites. At least the dolphins were out and about to amuse us. They came quite close to the shore at one stage and were jumping clear out of the water 8) Sadly the few bites didn't result in any hook ups for either of us and we made the decision to head to another nearby rock mark. After about 20 minutes of no-action we decided to head to the nearby beach for a spot of bait-fishing.
Hit the beach bang on LW, pleased to see that there was no weed so got baits in the water. Plenty of cormarants and terns diving for bait-fish so we hoped that might bring a silver fella or two about. Saw a few sand-eels in the surf line too and thought something might be chasing them in to the shallows but the sand-eels on the top snoods of our traces didn't get a knock. A few casts to distance produced a few doggies to beat the blank and a single flounder to 30 cm. One of the doggies fought really hard on the way in, I thought I might have been into a small huss, but it turned out that she was half-way through producing a few mermaids purses. Gulping down a mackeral bait and giving birth at the same time, now that's multi-tasking  Released her as gently as possible and she swam away no bother.
Later on AndyK85 came down, was good chatting to you Andy, hope you got into a few more fish after we left.
All-in-all an enjoyable session, roll on the return of the hounds :D
It ain't easy but it sure is simple!
