Downhill 11th April 2012

#1 Post by Monty156a »

People: Myself & Nial K

Duration: 7pm 'til 11.30

Tide: Filling 'til full high

Weather: Fine, dry but very cold

Bait: Rag, mack & sandeel

Rigs: Pully's, clipped down & running legers

Results: Blanked (both of us)

Report: Headed for Downhill on Wednesday evening last after good reports of Bass caught in recent weeks. We arrived at a near empty beach in great conditions. The surf was strong and the light was good. We both got set up and cast all four lines into the water and then absolutely nothing happened. :(

Time and time again we retrieved to find that our baits were untouched. We both experimented with rigs, bait presentation and even hook size but to no avail. Two gents arrived to spend several hours on the eastern end of the strand and they blanked as well.

Bit disappointing really, the conditions promised much but delivered little. Will just have to keep plugging away :)

On a positive note there was virtually no weed on Downhill strand, pity there were no fish either

Monty.

hard luck monty, it's not a venue i really rate myself but i know a few of the lads that target bass and they have had good results there in the past. it's a bit like whitepark bay. it's one of those marks where it's gonna be a feast or a famine
sadly you hit it on a day when it was a famine
but keep at it man and play the odds and your bound to get a decent session off it before too long  :P

Thanks guys, it was a bit of a bummer saved only by the scenery and my mate Nial's company. Going to give Downhill a miss until the sea temps rise a little, will stay on the rocks for a few more weeks yet :D
