Tide:2hrs down and 4 up

Weather:Beautiful, sunny, dry light breeze though cooler later dropping from 10-11 degrees to 3

Bait:Frozen mackerel, frozen lug.

Rigs:1 up 1 down, 3 hook flappers with and without booms.

Results:Flounder, sea scorpion, tiny pollack.

First trip in a few weeks as I've been giving the trout a go recently. Managed to get a bit of company this time with the brother and his daughter tagging along, (must use deodorant more often!). We decided to give a beach mark a go first and arrived for the last couple of hours of the ebb. We were getting bites straight away (prompting me to think we should have been down earlier) and these resulted in a series of flounder, some very small and the biggest making 27cm. A couple of double shots but mostly singles and the majority of fish coming from very close in. We released the fish into a sandy bottomed pool and it was great watching them whiz around before settling and burying themselves in the sand, completely invisible. I got a rattling good bite further out, struck and thought I had missed it but briefly felt the rod kick again and then saw a seatrout (approx 1 lb) jump clear of the water while shedding the hook. In total I got 6 flounder, the bro got 5 and the neice landed 4. At low tide the bites died away and failed to pick up with the flood except for one small flounder.
In previous reports I had mentioned getting only a few fish in the early flood at this particular mark and had suggested trying the ebb instead, today's results seem to confirm this idea. After a couple of biteless hours we headed off to another mark to see if there were any wrasse about but no sign of them yet, I got one tiny pollack and the bro got the l.s. scorpion fish. I wish I'd got that, I've never got a long spine one. We got several single tap bites which I think were more tiny pollack but one of the rods was using braid rather than mono and it doesn't half make the bites look impressive! To sum up, some small fish but a very pleasant day out.

Thanks Fisherking, the trout fishing produced some rainbows and browns from club stocked lakes, my local river and Lough Erne with the best fish by far being a 4.5lb brown. Do you fish for trout yourself?
