Cork beaches 07/04/2012

#1 Post by thescotsman »

People: me, Kyle, Nik, Tim, preston, donal domeney, Zeke at various points

Duration: 11:00am - no idea what time Zeke stopped fishing, about midnight for me

Tide: lw to lw

Weather: slight NE breeze, mild

Bait: launce, sandeel, mack, razor, lug, crab

Rigs: various flappers and pulleys

Results: turbot, flounder, lesser sandeels, 5 bearded rockling, pollack, bass, dogfish

Report: Putting up a quick report as we managed to get preston his first bass after a few failed attempts over the past few weeks - they seem to go awol when I have been near a beach this year so far.....

Few off us headed to East Cork to see could we grab some turbot. Only myself and Kyle managed to catch some fish and everyone one else managed to blank (Zeke excluded as he wasn't there at that point) - not sure was it our launce or our rigs that made the difference. Nothing of any size. We both managed to hook lesser sandeels on the retrieve - at the head end so its going on my species list. Donal headed off to another nearby mark and redeemed his day with a few fish. The plan was to then head West for the evening and meet up with Zeke and use our fresh razor (courtesy of Donal) to tempt some bass to come out and play.
Another quiet session for us all with a flat calm sea. Just as we were diillusioned and about to pack up a few fish made an appearance, with the bass, doggie, pollack, 5 beard and flounder appearing to various people over a cast or two. Stephen (preston) was delighted with his first bass and so after the obligatory photographs when we decided to call it a night he decided to stay on with Zeke for a while longer. Both winkled out another bass each so he didn't waste his time. Now we just need to get him a decent sized one lol.

The poor fishing had nothing to do with bait or rigs it was the conditions flat calm sea and crystal clear water the fish were in hiding. Even the crabs were on the missing list.
The bait came back in better condition than it went out.
My second move saw the same conditions and result.
I ended up in deeper water and saved the blank :D :D with a dog and a nice flounder (lefthand).

With the wind after freshening on Monday I headed to the same East Cork beach with John Warner.
We were greeted with lovely surf, on the way down the beach; we had a chat with Mark and Al with very little to report from them we headed to the right spot on the beach.  We scratched out some flounder and a turbot plus a bass of about 4lb taken on crab at distance.

Al also had a bass on my crab. 8)
I must start charging for the bait it seem to be working well for others
