Just to let you know how I am getting on...

#1 Post by pok17r »

People:Me

Duration: mostly 2hours before high tide

Tide: in coming

Weather: sun and cloud

Bait: mackerel, sand eel

Rigs: two hook flapper

Results: good

Report:
Well lads, I have been sea fishing for about five weeks now and have tried many different marks and all I seem to catch is sea trout, not that I'm complaining but I would like to catch a few different types of fish. It was quite a shock going from light tackle to using heavy beach rods, reels and big weights. But over the past five weeks I have reverted back to fishing with my two 12 foot 30 to 60 g spinning rods and reels which can handle up to 3 ounces comfortably because I am not fishing that far out. I put a 30 pound shock leader to 12 mono and 16 pound braid which works brilliant. There is a much better feeling when playing the fish. I have had a lot of sea trout 23 that I can remember but I know I've had quite a few more for I just weigh those that look over 2 pound before returning them. My two biggest to date are a 6 lbs. 2 oz. and a 5 lbs. 4 oz. It was only in the last two weeks that I caught two small flounder and two small turbot these really made my day. You have to understand I have fished for trout, salmon and coarse fish for years. Then I started sea fishing and all I was catching was trout. I started to think there were no sea fish in the sea. :? :D

them pesky yolks robbing your bait  so basicly over five weeks you caught 2 flounder and two small turbot ,if i where you i,d give up on the sea fishing and go back to the rivers and lakes ,with all the bad luck you seem to have
you can only catch whats infront of you ,have you tried any rock fishing :?: wrasse and bullhuss and mac and ray at distance ? any local estuarys normally hold good flounder but knowing your luck all youd catch is those pesky trout :!:

I'd be up for a house swap if you like. At the moment on offer is a healthy population of Common Shore Crab and very soon Lesser Spotted Dogfish and half pound Coalfish to rely on, maybe!!!

LOL... I know it sounds daft but i would like to catch other sorts of sea fish. Think, if every time you went out you caught the same kind of fish you would soon want to catch something else. I dont eat them, I only fish for the sport. I have never fished of the rocks I know very little about sea fishing only what i have read on the forum and alot of that I dont understand. The turbot were amazing looking fish 8)

take your knowledge of fresh water float fishing and upscale slightly in hook (size 1's), weight (20 -30 gram) and float size (pike float or similar) vary the depth from 2-8 metres,,use mack strips, shrimp or worms from any deepish rock mark,,your species count should start to improve,,GOOD LUCK :D
