Report: Had Thursday off work so the dilemma was whether to go out early and catch a rising tide or wait till the evening and fish the drop Decided to wait till evening and as I arrived at the Harbour a quick chat with an angler who was leaving confirmed I had made the right decision,,,,he hadnt had much luck at all . The pier was fairly packed but I got a space and set up my 2 light rods and soon had bait in the water, trying rag for the wrasse Fishface had told me about. Some quick nibbles confirmed that he was on the money and I soon had another species, corkwing wrasse, to add to the list .Quick photo and the litle wrasse was returned over the wall to fight for his life ,,,,,the ones caught to my right werent so lucky ,,,,straight into the plastic bag with their cousins Tiny Tim Whiting and Pedro Pin Pollock. Even my most deadly stare didnt have the desired effect of getting the message across that the smaller ones should be put back ,,,,,funny enough the couple of doggies they caught later were thrown back in ,,,,,but at least the fish had some nice belly dancing music to wriggle around to as they suffocated in the plastic bag ,,,,,,,,,in fact if you closed your eyes and listened to the transistor radio you could almost be in some Eastern casbah ,,,,,,that is until the sound of screeching tyres on the gravel in the carpark brought you back to Ireland Fishface arrived arrived looking like robocop in his bodybrace ,,,,a mere broken back wasnt going to stop his quest for tiddlers .He set up his new Ugly Stik rod and did his best to help a little lad and his dad catch a fish and was successful,,,one of the nicer moments of the night. I had some more wrasse, then pollock after pollock and coalie,,,,with some doubles of pollock and a double of scorpion fish. Plenty of fish to 32cms. Fishface left at 9pm,,,,his back-pain finally getting the better of him . I stayed for another hour ,,,,,,,,leaving a load of lads fighting over my spot ,,,,I tried to tell them that it was my skill and not the spot,,,,,,,,,,but even I didnt believe that

Nice evening to be out dave and not bad nights fishing by the sounds of it . I was out with the brother
giving the boat a run ,the fishing was crap but it was lovely to get out for a few hours .heading back

asked them to take their gear in but it fell on deaf ears so we edged in and they still watched that was until 4 of their lines went under the boat and headed for the prop so a few words were exchanged and then i picked up my nice shiny very sharp knife and cut their lines much to there disgust .....they all just stood there mouths wide open staring down at us and not one of them said a word .

unfortunate hearing about the small fish nice one on adding the corkwing to the list for the year anyway and sounded like ye got a fair bit of action aswell good going.

asked them to take their gear in but it fell on deaf ears so we edged in and they still watched that was until 4 of their lines went under the boat and headed for the prop so a few words were exchanged and then i picked up my nice shiny very sharp knife and cut their lines much to there disgust .....they all just stood there mouths wide open staring down at us and not one of them said a word .

This is what we are going to be dealing with from now on
I can see them closing the pier to fishing because of this Come in with WOT and they will reel in quick enough

great report dave. good to see neil's injurys not keeping him away from the brine
as for the idiots bagging up on everything, sadly a sign of the summer returning man
time to dissappear off to hard to get to rock marks and away from the holiday makers.
but, even these refuge's are getting hammered hard too. seems to be getting harder to find spots these guys don't know about

Nice report Dave, And good to Hear Neil is on the mend!! Really really saddens me to hear the carry on, on that pier, last time i was out there three Eastern European lads (i was chattin to them, nice enough lads if ya dont mention fish sizes!) were bagging everything they caught, I approached and asked them seriously what meal are you going to get out of THAT!??! and he replied we make broth out of them... I said we'll if ya leave em back (the ones you havent reefed the hooks out of) in a while you could have an actual dinner out of them!! also mention if people kept taking smallies there aint going to be ANY fishing left on the pier!

as a shore/pier angler I always lift up my lines for boats (not as if im going to miss a fish by not) I have seen lads on piers thinking their lines have "right of way" !! one lad refused to lift it, line wrapped in the prop, took his rod clean off the pier.. what ensued next was comical.. he ran to were the boat was pulling in screamed abuse at the skipper about the loss of his rod and demanded payment (harbour master was near by) (seemingly the rod was one of those famous special buys from aldi ) so the skipper turn and said .. "I need a new prop for my boat after the damage your line and rod did that will be €500 please" (he said it at the top of his voice so we all could hear) the rod lad, backed off, and the skipper started to chase him looking for his details, threats to ring the gardas etc. ah I tell you, I havent laughed like it in ages!!

Furthermore, Mitch as a shore/pier angler I would EXPECT you to cut my line if needs be, Its far more important that a boat docks as we on the pier dont know if your coming in just to pull in or something more serious as injured crew, engine failure, etc.!

Well done fine looking wrasse. What size hooks where you using when targeting the wrasse? It looks much bigger than the others. I have fished there a few times and found size 6 & 4's were great for the pollock & coalies.
