Re: Bass Frenzy - 15th March 2012
Thanks guys,

Thanks Gerry, yes the pressure seems to be an important influence on feeding. That night was an ideal test of the theory after a long period of high pressure there was a rapid pressure drop as the high moved eastwards and the southerwesterlies and associated low pressure moved in. Imagine what it would have been like if it coincided with the spring tide rather than the neapmitch wrote:Congrats frank that was unbelievable fishing![]()
ill be keeping an eye on the pressure
from now on![]()

My best ever lure session (in October 2009) also occurred at the end of a sustained period of high pressure (which persisted through most of September and into the first week or so of October) as southwesterlies were beginning to move in. At the time I just though it was the freshening conditions which brought them on the feed. But it must also have coincided with a rapid drop in Barometric pressure.MAC wrote:I am convinced too that the rapidly dropping barometric pressure after a prolonged period of high pressure was responsible for this feeding frenzy, I have often experienced the same pattern of behaviour.
It is widely believed the falling pressure makes fish, which own a swim bladder, feed more aggressively on a falling pressure. When barometric pressure is rising, fish generally become more active, but when pressure is high, fish tend to slow down, seek cover or head to deeper waters.

Brilliant!
When you say the pressure was falling, do you mean it was high but getting lower?

Re: Bass Frenzy - 15th March 2012
Yes, for the previous few weeks the barometric pressure was typically around 1024 or higher, but when the southwesterlies broke through the pressure dropped rapidly (not sure what it dropped to, probably around 1004) while I was fishing that night.John D wrote:When you say the pressure was falling, do you mean it was high but getting lower?
